This is an idea book for artists. The author has an interesting idea: take a black and white photograph, color it with various types of paints or inks, mount it onto some sort of substrate, and then create an artwork around it, using various painting and materials techniques.
Some of the examples are quite evocative, but many of them are too messy looking for my personal taste. I enjoyed the collage elements of some of the examples, but am not comfortable enough with painting techniques to personally try many of the ideas suggested here. Still, for artists looking for tips and tricks, and ideas to get them started, this book is definitely recommended.
