The Prince and the Pilgrim by Mary Stewart

The Prince and the Pilgrim by Mary Stewart. New York: William Morrow and Company, 1995. ISBN: 0-688-14538-8

Mary Stewart has written some of my all-time favorite Arthurian fiction, as I’ve mentioned before. Somehow I had never gotten around to reading this book. This charming tale is based on a brief story told in Thomas Malory’s Le Morte d’ Arthur, Book X. Stewart provides us with the entire text of the original Malory version in an Appendix. She takes the liberty of changing the manner of the meeting between our hero and heroine, but her version is probably a better story. Not nearly the masterpiece of Stewart’s King Arthur trilogy, this book is still worth the time of anyone enamored of Arthurian romance. Mildly and graciously recommended.
