Bachelor Brothers' Bed & Breakfast Pillow Book

Bachelor Brothers' Bed & Breakfast Pillow Book by Bill Richardson. New York: St. Martin's Griffin, 1998 (copyright 1995). ISBN: 0-312-19440-4

This is the totally delightful sequel to the totally delightful original Bachelor Brothers' Bed & Breakfast. If you read the original, you'll need no encouragement to read the sequel. If you haven't read the original, that is too bad, and so sad. Bill Richardson is one of the best humor writers around, and these books are not to be missed.

I'm not exactly sure of the definition of a “pillow book,” but one of the features seems to be lists of other books for particular uses, such as the list of “cookbooks that are fine to read,” or “Hector's books for bathroom browsing,” or “Virgil's books for baby Martina's first five years.” The book also contains a number of recipes, most of them sent in by mail by people who spent time at the Bed & Breakfast. These recipes include:

  • Betty Bundy's Bachlor Buttons

  • Uncle Henry Miller's Sex in a Pan

  • Edith Patterson's Food for the Gods

  • Great-Grandma Hattie's Egg Shampoo for Hair, and

  • My Mother's Bread and Butter Pickles

If there is any complaint to be made about this sequel, it could only be that the climax of the events portrayed herein are so ridiculously silly that you will either be ROLF, or just the opposite, with a decidedly down your nose “We are NOT amused!” Recommended for anyone in need of a few good belly laughs.
