Our Endangered Values by Jimmy Carter
Our Endangered Values: America's Moral Crisis by Jimmy Carter. New York: Simon & Schuster, 2005. ISBN: 978-0-7432-8457-8
In this powerfully argued and convincingly written book, former president Jimmy Carter speaks with moral authority on where and how our country has gone wrong. He describes how we've taken a wrong turn, strongly influenced by the so-called “Christian” right. He shows quite clearly how religious fundamentalism, in all its insidious guises, has betrayed the basic values that are at the heart of our society. Not only that, the false values they espouse are not compatible with the basic tenants of traditional Judeo-Christian thought and belief.
A few of the book's chapter titles are illuminating:
No Conflict Between Science and Religion
The Entwining of Church and State
Sins of Divorce and Homosexuality
Would Jesus Approve Abortions and the Death Penalty?
Must Women Be Subservient?
Fundamentalism in Government
Worshiping the Prince of Peace, or Preemptive War?
Where Are the Major Threats to the Environment?
Highly recommended for ALL Americans!
